Call for Proposals: Leveraging LinkedIn Learning Initiatives (LILI) at CUHK

A University-wide call inviting faculties, departments, programmes, and units to develop innovative applications of LinkedIn Learning aligned with CUHK's strategic priorities in AI literacy, digital fluency, and lifelong learning.

Guidance Notes
What Is LILI?
LinkedIn Learning Initiatives

LILI is a University-wide digital learning platform established to enhance campus-wide digital learning, support lifelong learning, and address emerging skills needs driven by artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Launching August 2026, LILI serves as a core digital learning infrastructure — modular, data-driven, and flexible.

Not Just a Platform — A Strategic Asset

LILI complements formal courses and programmes through scalable, self-directed learning resources. It is not a course creation requirement. Units may request licenses to support operational, professional development, or self-directed learning use cases — no formal course required.

Who Can Use LILI?

LILI serves a University-wide audience. Priority in this initial phase is given to current CUHK staff and students.

Undergraduate Students

Access curated learning pathways aligned to disciplines and employability goals.

Postgraduate Students

Supplement research and professional skills through modular, self-paced content.

Academic Staff

Embed LinkedIn Learning into teaching, co-curricular activities, and scholarly practice.

Professional & Administrative Staff (PAS)

Support operational and professional development goals without complex curriculum frameworks.

Scope and Eligible Activities

LILI is a cross-cutting learning resource designed to support both formal curriculum enhancement and informal, self-directed learning — without requiring the creation of a standalone award-bearing programme.

Curriculum Integration

Supplementary or flipped learning embedded within existing courses and programmes. LinkedIn Learning content can serve as pre-class preparation or post-class extension materials.

Co-Curricular Employability

Structured employability programmes delivered alongside formal studies, linking platform content to career development and graduate attributes.

Staff Professional Development

Curated learning pathways aligned to staff roles, departments, or institutional competency frameworks — with no requirement for formal assessment.

Micro-Learning Programmes

Non-credit-bearing, modular programmes addressing institutional skills gaps — such as AI literacy, digital fluency, and data interpretation — delivered flexibly across time and mode.

Objectives of This Call

Proposals should contribute to one or more of the following strategic objectives. These priorities reflect CUHK's broader commitment to AI-readiness, workforce development, and data-informed institutional enhancement.

AI & Digital Literacy

Strengthen AI literacy, digital literacy, and data-informed skills across disciplines and roles.

Personalized Learning

Support personalized, self-directed learning pathways tailored to individual needs and contexts.

Employability

Enhance transferable skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving for career readiness.

Lifelong Learning

Enable lifelong learning across student and staff populations beyond formal award-bearing programmes.

Data-Informed Decisions

Support evidence-based institutional decision-making and learning enhancement through platform analytics.

LILI Learning Design Principles

All proposals should reflect the following core design principles to ensure consistency, scalability, and alignment with the University's strategic learning vision.

Modular & Self-Paced

Content is structured in bite-sized, flexible units that learners can complete at their own pace and schedule.

Flexible Pathways

Learners can navigate across time, mode, and discipline — supporting diverse needs and learning contexts.

Role-Agnostic Applicability

Content and pathways should be applicable across a range of roles and professional contexts within the University.

CUHK-Curated Pathways

Where appropriate, proposals should develop CUHK-specific learning pathways that contextualise platform content for local needs.

KSA (> ASK) Framework: Knowledge, Skills & Attitudes

All proposals should demonstrate a clear contribution to learner development across three dimensions. LILI is designed to cultivate not just knowledge and skills, but also the mindsets needed for an AI-driven world.

Knowledge

Multi-domain content acquisition across disciplines, technical fields, and professional areas.

Skills

Technical, digital, and professional skills development aligned to career and institutional needs.

Attitudes

Fostering growth mindset, adaptability, and commitment to lifelong learning as core professional values.

Governance
How LILI Is Governed

LILI operates under a distributed governance model with defined and complementary stakeholder roles across the University, ensuring the platform is academically driven, centrally supported, and institutionally aligned.

This integrated model ensures that LILI remains academically contextualised, technically robust, and strategically aligned with CUHK's priorities in AI, digital literacy, and lifelong learning.

LILI in Context: What It Is — and What It Is Not
LILI IS
  • A University-wide, open-access digital learning platform
  • A complement to formal courses and programmes
  • A resource for self-directed, flexible, and modular learning
  • A tool for staff development without formal assessment requirements
  • Available to students, academic staff, PAS, and affiliated learners
LILI IS NOT
  • A replacement for formal award-bearing programmes
  • A direct funding source for units or projects
  • A platform that issues CUHK certificates independently
  • A requirement to create courses in order to access licenses
  • Limited to curriculum or academic use cases only
Strategic Alignment with CUHK Priorities

LILI is not a standalone initiative — it is a strategic enabler aligned with CUHK's institutional commitments in AI education, workforce development, and evidence-based learning enhancement.
